On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, Hurricane Michael slammed into the Florida gulf coast devastating the city of Mexico Beach and surrounding areas. As tragic an event this was, it opened a door of opportunity for the Lord’s people. There is a small congregation of the Lord’s church located just a few miles outside of Mexico Beach, which meets in the Over-street community. Once the storm passed, members began rescue efforts at this location and which soon became relief efforts. Over the following weeks it became a privilege of the Ironaton church of Christ to assist in this good work.
Growing out of our efforts with Hurricane Micheal, the Ironaton congregation formed a Disaster Response Team. Our elders oversee this team as they go forth to relieve and minister in disaster-stricken areas. In order to be well prepared for events, we have limited our direct involvement in different categories. The following is a summary of our response area:
Tornadoes within a 3 hour radius of Talladega, AL
Hurricanes within a 6 hour radius of Talladega, AL
Although no one looks forward to disasters, we hope to bring glory to God by our service every time we serve and provide relief for those affected.
